Purchasing Supervisor

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience

About the Position

Gila River Sand & Gravel Corporation is looking for an experienced Purchasing Supervisor to oversee procurement activities supporting our plant operations and capital projects.

This position will lead the purchasing team, manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and contracts, and help ensure the company receives the right products and services at the right cost, quality, and time.

The ideal candidate has strong procurement experience, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to balance day-to-day purchasing needs with longer-term cost savings and supplier strategy.

What You'll Do

Purchasing & Procurement

• Supervise daily purchasing activities supporting plant operations and capital projects
• Ensure goods and services are purchased accurately, efficiently, and on schedule
• Develop purchasing strategies focused on cost, quality, and supplier performance
• Negotiate supplier pricing, contracts, and terms
• Evaluate and select suppliers based on cost, quality, reliability, and service
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with internal departments to forecast purchasing needs
• Manage the procure-to-pay process and ensure purchasing activities follow company policies

Vendor Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
• Resolve supply, quality, service, and invoicing issues
• Monitor supplier performance and address problems when they arise
• Identify opportunities to improve pricing, service levels, and purchasing efficiency

Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and support purchasing staff
• Provide training, guidance, and day-to-day direction
• Help establish purchasing processes and best practices
• Collaborate with Accounting, Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, and other departments to ensure procurement supports business needs

Reporting & Process Improvement

• Maintain accurate purchasing records and reports
• Analyze purchasing activity, market conditions, and potential cost-saving opportunities
• Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and applicable requirements
• Support improvements to e-procurement, purchasing processes, and data analytics
• Use ERP systems to manage and track purchasing activity

What We're Looking For

• 5–7 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience
• Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
• Experience managing the full procure-to-pay cycle
• Strong vendor management and contract negotiation skills
• Experience with e-procurement systems and ERP platforms
• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify cost-saving opportunities
• Knowledge of supply chain management and procurement best practices
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field preferred
• An Associate degree may be considered with relevant additional experience

Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPIM, CSCP, CPPB, CPM, C.P.M., NAPM, ISM, CPP, or CPMS are a plus.
